My interests are quite diverse. I have a degree in biology and chemistry. I find myself being drawn strongly towards bio-analytical research with applications from medical to environmental. My first research projects were traditional toxicology protocols with
Daphnia magna,
Hyallela azteca, and various algal sp. under the supervision of
Lynda McCarthy at
Ryerson University. Since that time I have gained more experience with molecular protocols and a better understanding of analytical tools in biochemistry and environmental science while performing my master's degree under the supervision of
Chris Metcalfe at Trent University and now my PhD under the supervision of
Neil Emery. Now I'm hooked on science - I want to know how small ripples cause big waves and the only way to do this is to analytically detect small changes in the environment and then try to interpret and understand their impacts on a biochemical, biological, geochemical and ecological level.
When I'm not in the lab or writing something on a computer, I like to listen to music, dance and cook. I can hardly listen to music without singing along or tapping my foot. I am a Karaoke regular after I attended a SETAC conference a couple of years ago and was swept away with the fun of one of the student events!
My other favorite things are: The Hour with George Strombolopolous, the colour blue, political discussion, economics, x-mas with family, new years with friends, and four in the morning after it snows.
